Ex-CFO of RWE AG, Innogy SE and Fortum Oyj, Member of the Supervisory Board at ThyssenKrupp AG
Bernhard Günther has served as Group CFO of a number of stock listed energy companies mainly in Germany and eventually in Finland: RWE, innogy and Fortum. In this capacity he led major transformation programs, most notably the split of RWE and innogy in 2016, the integration of innogy into E.On in 2018-2020 and then finally the preparation of the integration of Fortum and Uniper SE.
After a master and a PhD in economics from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), he started his career in management consulting before joining RWE in 1999 as a financial controller. He moved through various roles in both headquarters and operational units such as power generation and energy trading.
Over the years, his constant personal interest was about understanding the factors differentiating high performing companies from their less successful peers. This journey has taken him gradually beyond his initial focus on finance and strategy to systemic and cultural aspects of management and leadership.
