Online Certified in Finance & Economics

Boost your expertise in Finance & Economics – fully online

The Online Certified in Finance & Economics Program is a virtual Executive Education Program, focusing on the areas of finance and economics. This program will introduce you to the fundamentals of both topics and will equip you with the necessary insights, skills, and tools. All courses are delivered at the MBA level, which means that relevance and applicability to your job are at their core. You will benefit from innovative teaching methods and a virtual but collaborative learning experience. After successful completion of the program, you will be granted a WHU Executive Education Digital Certificate and 10 ECTS credits, which can be credited towards an MBA degree.

Program Content

The WHU Online Certified in Finance & Economics Program will provide you with the necessary knowledge, skillset, and tools to make financial decisions.

The program consists of the following online courses:

  • Financial Markets & Assets
  • Financial & Management Accounting
  • Global Business Economics
  • Investors, Valuation & Governance
  • Economic Foundations of Decision Making

To receive a certification, you must participate in four of five courses and successfully pass each course’s examination. The certificate grants 10 ECTS credits (16% of an MBA).

Before starting the Online Certified in Finance & Economics we highly recommend taking part in the math pre-course to update your knowledge in this field. This course requires 14 h of self-study within the timeframe of max. 6 weeks. For more information, please contact us directly.

  • Understand the impact of financial leverage, tax, and financial distress on the cost of capital
  • Learn about financing sources for corporations and equity financing

Economic Foundations of Decision Making

  • Understand how enterprises can create value and position themselves within the arena of markets
  • Analyze where and when to compete, in particular how to distinguish attractive from unattractive markets
  • Examine how changes in economic or industry conditions affect business strategy

Participant Profile

This program is targeted at young and middle management talents who have an educational background in other fields and would like to acquire a solid knowledge in finance and economy. This program suits participants who would like to develop further and get an overview of the financial side of business.

Admission requirements: To apply for this program, a proof of a Bachelor or equivalent first degree is necessary. Furthermore, participants are expected to have a minimum of two years of professional experience. Please note that applications need to be handed in at least 6 weeks before the start of the first chosen module.

Program Format and Module Dates

The program consists of 4 courses. Each course requires, on average, 17 hours per week of self-paced learning and 1-2 hours of live-teaching sessions which take place on Saturdays with the opportunity to choose between two timeslots at 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm(CEST). All courses last 5 weeks and include a final examination.

At WHU, our program participants are names, not numbers, and we value a personal connection. Hence, during the application process, we would like to get to know you as an applicant in a personal interview that can be either on campus or virtual. You will also have the possibility to ask any questions you might have. The interview can take place before our after you apply online.
