Assistant Professor Victor van Pelt

Finance & Accounting Group at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management

Victor van Pelt has been a faculty member at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management since 2019. He obtained his Bachelor of Science from Tilburg University in the Netherlands and later received the title of Master of Science from the same university. After completing the two-year Research Master program, he continued to pursue a Ph.D. in Accounting at the Department of Accountancy at Tilburg University from September 2015 to June 2019. Part of Victor van Pelt's doctoral research was carried out at Cornell University and Emory University in the U.S. Victor van Pelt also worked as an assistant accountant for two years at the Bureau of Professional Practice of BDO in the Netherlands.

Victor van Pelt's research focuses on how people produce, use, and respond to accounting information, reporting systems, and controls. He has published in top accounting journals, including Management Accounting Research, Issues in Accounting Education, and Contemporary Accounting Research. Recent examples of questions that Victor van Pelt tackles with his research are: Why are managers more reluctant to let go of control than take control over their employees? Do different types of investors read and interpret text contained in financial disclosures differently? Do mandated public tax disclosures actually help identify aggressive tax avoiders?

Victor van Pelt currently teaches graduate and post-graduate courses at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management. His courses mainly cover management accounting, financial accounting, and academic research. However, he has also taught courses on conducting research and programming in the past.
